52 Super Series 2018 Annual Sustainability Prize Goes to South African Team Phoenix, Bluewater hydration station donated to Mallorca

Valencia. Spain, September 24, 2018  – 52 Super Sailing Series team Phoenix were crowned “Greenest Team of the Year” at the final prize-giving ceremony held Saturday in Valencia.

Their prize is a powerhouse water hydration station donated by Bluewater, a 52 SUPER SERIES Sustainability Partner, which will be installed in Puerto Portals to help leave a positive legacy on the Balearic Island.

According to the winning citation, the Phoenix team 'displayed all the hallmarks of any 52 SUPER SERIES champion' to scoop the annual sustainability award.

At the ceremony the prize was handed over by Jeremy Pochman, 11th Hour Racing Co-founder and Strategic Director, who said: "We wish to thank Bluewater for being part of this journey and for their leadership in providing sustainable and accessible solutions to communities worldwide.”

Bluewater has been a Sustainability Partner of the European 52 Super Series sailing tournament, acclaimed for its strong focus on high performance, highly-engineered technology, ultra-efficient systems and robust sustainability strategy.

The series concluded in Valencia after touring southern Europe all summer with a Bluewater hydration station, which ensured teams and visitors had 24-hour access to water purified of all potential waterborne contaminants, ranging from lead to chemical and micro plastics, as well as avoid the need to use single-use plastic bottles, a key Bluewater business mission.

The Bluewater water station will be ultimately located at Puerto Portals on Mallorca, which is still heavily reliant on single-use plastic from shop-bought water.

Anders Jacobson, Bluewater President and Chief Strategy Officer, adds:

“Joining forces with the 52 SUPER SERIES and 11th Hour Racing demonstrates how sustainable technology and solutions already exist and can be harnessed where there is a common will and commitment to work for planetary and human health.”
