Press release -
Strong Growth and New Records for BookBeat in the First Half of 2025
The audiobook service BookBeat’s growth journey continues. During the first half of 2025, the number of paying users increased by 16 percent compared to the same period last year, surpassing the milestone of 1.1 million. At the same time, revenues rose by 15 percent. June saw the highest influx of new users ever in Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
“Summer is the peak season for audiobooks, and 2025 is no exception as June brought new records. We set a new monthly record for new users in the Swedish market, ten years after our broader launch in the summer of 2016. In Germany, we also reached new heights, achieving peak daily and monthly levels of new users despite tough competition from global players like Audible and Spotify,” says Niclas Sandin, CEO of BookBeat.
Strongest Growth Among Young Adult Women
In Sweden, the age group 25–34 remains the strongest growth engine, accounting for 25 percent of the new users so far this year. In total, 68 percent of new users are women and 32 percent are men.
“The average age of our new users increases every year, but it’s still the group around 30 years old that dominates our growth. This shows that even in a mature market, we manage to attract new listeners and broaden the audience for books,” says Niclas Sandin.
Distribution of New Swedish Users by Age Group:
18–24 years: 7%
25–34 years: 25%
35–44 years: 21%
45–54 years: 20%
55–64 years: 16%
65+ years: 11%
