The world’s first Airgonomics training: The practice of ensuring Indoor Air Quality in the workplace

Stockholm, 8th June 2023 - Camfil, the global leader in air filtration and clean air solutions, announces the launch of its Airgonomics 101 training platform as part of the Chief Airgonomics Officer (CAO) initiative. This introductory training programme aims to equip professionals with knowledge on how to ensure a healthier and safer workplace environment by practising good Airgonomics that ensure indoor air quality (IAQ). Alain Bérard, the first Chief Airgonomics Officer at Camfil, stated, "I am thrilled to see the introduction of the Airgonomics 101 Training programme. With this training, we empower professionals to create healthier IAQ environments. Clean air is a human right, and with over 60 years of Camfil knowledge we share the best Airgonomics practices for your workplace.“

The Airgonomics 101 training programme covers a wide range of essential topics for the Chief Airgonomics Officer role in an organisation. It includes the reasons for appointing a Chief Airgonomics Officer; facts and figures on IAQ; the role of air filtration technologies; strategies for monitoring IAQ; actionable steps for improving IAQ; effectively communicating and educating employees. The training is just around 40 minutes, in video format with a quick quiz at the end of each module.

Study after study has shown that the amount of ventilation is a critical determinant of health. Camfil has now launched the Airgonomics 101 training programme to support organisations to understand IAQ in the workplace better. As people spend up to 90% indoors, clean air and practising Airgonomics have many positive benefits for human health, businesses and the economy. Air quality can reduce sick building syndrome symptoms and cut absenteeism by reducing infectious disease transmission which in turn leads to higher productivity and healthier employees.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) found that work absences related to poor air cost Britain about 600m BP annually with 3m working days lost every year due to poor health-related causes. Workers would in turn also add 900m BP in extra wages from increased time at work.

A recent study highlighted that enhanced air ventilation and breathing better air with IAQ can improve human cognitive functions, such as a 131% improvement in crisis response, 288% improvement in strategic thinking and a 299% improvement in information usage.

Businesses would benefit from recognizing the importance of IAQ and take action by participating in the world’s first training programme on Airgonomics, in order to optimise air quality for employees’ health and productivity. Indoor air quality was declared a human right at the United Nations in 2022 and Camfil launched the CAO global programme in 2022. Read more about the Chief Airgonomics here: Home | Chief Airgonomics Officer.
