CMP Extends Cruise Season with Christmas Calls and Record Off-Season Growth
Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) is entering a new era of year-round cruising, with a record number of calls outside the traditional summer season.
These developments are a major advantage for the destinations, as off-season calls allow guests the opportunity to explore local attractions, enjoy cultural experiences, and contribute to the regional economy throughout the year.
In Copenhagen, the festive season will be particularly vibrant with 10 Christmas cruise calls in December, featuring Santa Claus and Christmas music in collaboration with Wonderful Copenhagen. The new year begins early, with the first call arriving on January 2, 2026, and a total of five calls in January.
Visby is also making strides in extending its season, with two Christmas calls and a schedule that runs from April 1 all the way to December 23, 2026. This marks a significant achievement in bringing cruise tourism into the colder months, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the island’s unique charm year-round.
Malmö will host one Christmas call in December and a 2026 season starting already on March 15, positioning Malmö as an increasingly attractive destination for cruise lines and guests seeking new experiences in the Baltic region.
Across all CMP destinations, the number of calls between October 2025 and April 2026 will reach 88, compared to 64 in the same period last year—an increase of 37.5%. Copenhagen alone accounts for 67 calls, up 31.4% from last year.
"Cruise guests are increasingly looking for unique experiences beyond the traditional summer season, and our destinations deliver exactly that—festive atmospheres, cultural highlights, and authentic Nordic charm. It gives visitors the possibility to explore and enjoy what Copenhagen, Malmö, and Visby have to offer during the colder months," says Luis De Carvalho, Commercial Cruise Director of Copenhagen Malmö Port.
