Alternative Fuels: Gruber Logistics Relies on Bio-LNG and HVO

The traditional logistics company Gruber Logistics has been successfully collaborating with fuel manufacturer Delta Energy for over a year. This ambitious partnership pursues two goals: reducing emissions in road freight transport and utilizing high-quality, environmentally sustainable fuels. By lowering emissions by up to 95% with HVO and up to 70% with Bio-LNG, Gruber Logistics significantly improved its carbon footprint in 2024, working hand-in-hand with Delta Energy. The fuels supplied by Delta Energy, particularly in northern Italy, are certified in terms of production and supply chains and meet Gruber Logistics' strict sustainability criteria.

Delta Energy, like Gruber Logistics, is based in the Trentino-South Tyrol region. Thanks to the fueling network of the Trento-based fuel manufacturer and the strength of the logistics company from Auer in northern Italy, particularly along the Brenner Corridor, supply and demand are perfectly aligned. More than 80% of the Bio-LNG consumed by the entire Gruber Logistics fleet and almost all HVO fueling comes from Delta Energy’s resources.

"The emission reductions achieved with HVO and Bio-LNG fuels are enormous compared to conventional diesel. However, it is essential that these fuels are not produced through agricultural land conversion, deforestation, or monoculture farming. Such practices are counterproductive and have always been unacceptable to us. We actively work against these developments," emphasized Stefan Knapp, Executive Director Fleet at Gruber Logistics. "This is why we focus on sustainable procurement logistics. In our partnership with Delta Energy, certified standards are applied to ensure resource-friendly production and delivery of the fuel."

Mirco Conte, President of Delta Energy, highlighted the strong collaboration:"We are proud to be part of Gruber Logistics' world and to contribute to making logistics greener. Since 2023, Delta Energy has been a pioneer in alternative fuels – starting with LNG, then Bio-LNG, and now HVO. The collaboration of two players in a region particularly committed to developing sustainable solutions has created a synergy that significantly reduces emissions thanks to certified products."

Under the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED), which promotes the expansion of renewable energy sources, strict requirements apply to the quality of alternative fuels. These are vital steps in Europe's journey toward climate neutrality. "The RED-II regulations provide clear guidelines for the procurement of alternative fuels, enabling us to evaluate their sustainability and quality. Delta Energy meets these requirements, thereby supporting our overall strategy for greener road freight transport at Gruber Logistics," explained Ettore Gualandi, Team Leader for Sustainability & Eco-Innovation at Gruber Logistic
