ANDRITZ Receives Engineering Contract for Another 100 MW Hydrogen Plant in Germany

International technology Group ANDRITZ has been awarded the contract for the official engineering for the construction of a 100 MW plant for the production of green hydrogen in Rostock, Germany.

The client is REPCO (rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH), a joint venture of RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG and Rostock Port GmbH.

Subject to the investment decision planned for mid-2025, REPCO intends to give ANDRITZ the green light (notice to proceed) for the delivery of the plant. It will be one of the first plants in Germany to feed hydrogen into the German hydrogen core network and the future European Hydrogen Backbone, thereby making an important contribution to the energy transition.

After receiving the Notice-to-Proceed, ANDRITZ will supply the plant on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) basis using HydrogenPro alkaline pressure electrolysis. The scope of supply includes the hydrogen production plant, auxiliary and supply systems, systems for hydrogen purification and compression, storage and a hydrogen filling plant. Commissioning is planned for 2027.

REPCO's plant will be one of the first to be connected to the hydrogen core network. This pipeline network is expected to supply large parts of Europe with green hydrogen once it goes into operation in 2028. The new plant will also supply local industrial companies and the transport sector, thus further advancing Germany's decarbonization strategy.

Michael Wurzel, Managing Director of REPCO, said: “The 100 MW electrolyzer is at the heart of the HyTechHafen Rostock project, which aims to drive forward the energy transition in Europe. This is a crucial project that will strengthen Rostock's role as an important hub for energy transportation. ANDRITZ has shown a comprehensive understanding of the entire project. We appreciate the company's flexibility and collaborative approach.”

Sami Pelkonen, EVP, Green Hydrogen, ANDRITZ, added: “We have always emphasized that the green transformation cannot be achieved single-handedly. We are therefore very pleased that major German energy suppliers and Rostock Port GmbH, as local supporters, are also setting a good example and joining forces to drive this process forward. We are proud to be part of this important project for green hydrogen and to work together towards a more sustainable future.”

The REPCO joint venture was founded in 2022 with the aim of advancing and further expanding the infrastructure for the production and distribution of green hydrogen.

This is the second order for ANDRITZ in connection with the construction of a 100 MW plant for green hydrogen in Germany. The first was awarded to the company by Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.
