Biogas Fleet Strengthens Climate-Friendly Logistics in Hamburg

With the complete conversion of its 40-truck fleet in the Hanseatic city to the climate-friendly fuel biogas, the food wholesaler now supplies around 400 customers from the gastronomy and catering sectors in Hamburg in an environmentally friendly way. This once again underlines Transgourmet’s commitment to future-proof logistics. This is made possible by an in-house biogas filling station at the site as well as a consistent focus on low-emission technologies in building operations – for example through photovoltaic systems, waste heat recovery, green roofs, and the use of green electricity.

A Contribution to the Environment

The biogas is produced from organic residues, which means that only as much CO₂ is released as the residues had previously absorbed in the natural cycle. This not only significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, but also makes an active contribution to the circular economy: waste is put to good use and converted into climate-friendly energy. By switching to biogas, Transgourmet Hamburg saves as much CO₂ each year as would be generated by around 190 car journeys around the globe. At the same time, transport becomes less dependent on fossil fuels, and the decarbonisation of the transport sector is driven forward consistently.

A Contribution to the Region

“Hamburg is becoming greener” is an inspiration for the entire region. By participating in the Hamburg Environmental Partnership, Transgourmet is strengthening cooperation between the city and businesses for greater climate protection. In addition, the company is working together with the non-profit association Heckenretter e. V. to promote climate protection and biodiversity in the Hamburg area: by planting native shrubs in the Altes Land region, Transgourmet is making yet another contribution to climate protection in and around Hamburg.
