Deutsche ReGas and MOL Agree On Additional LNG Regasification Vessel
Deutsche ReGas has signed a long-term charter agreement with the Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for an additional gasification vessel (FSRU) for the "Deutsche Ostsee" energy terminal in Mukran on the island of Rügen. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered in the winter of 2027/2028. With this additional vessel, Deutsche ReGas intends to fully utilize the terminal's approved gasification capacity of up to 13.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Before being deployed at the terminal, an existing LNG tanker will be converted into an FSRU. These vessels can take on board, store, and regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG) before it is injected into the gas grid. With two FSRUs, the terminal will create additional opportunities for LNG imports to Germany and Europe, thus contributing to security of supply.
These vessels will allow the terminal to expand its LNG import capacity to Germany and Europe, thereby contributing to security of supply. Ingo Wagner, CEO of Deutsche ReGas, explained that the partnership with MOL would make it possible to restore the approved terminal capacity and increase import flexibility. This would benefit consumers, industry, and energy markets.
