Europe's Only Hydrogen Training Track Opens

The Essen-based long-distance transmission system operator Open Grid Europe GmbH (OGE) today launched a training center that is unique in Europe with the opening of the H₂ training track in Werne.

To meet the requirements of hydrogen handling, OGE, in collaboration with competent partners such as the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) and the Gas and Heat Institute Essen (GWI), designed and built the H₂ training track in Werne. This facility enables participants to practice handling hydrogen under realistic conditions and to practice operational processes. Starting this fall, the training courses will also be available to external companies, and initial registrations have already been received.

"The transformation in the energy market will only succeed if we shape it together. With know-how, with responsibility, and with the courage to break new ground. The H₂ training track is an example of this and a building block for the development of the hydrogen division at OGE and in our country. It makes Werne a center of excellence for the safe and efficient use of hydrogen in the long-distance pipeline grid", said Dr. Thomas Hüwener, Spokesperson for the Management Board at OGE.
