Federal Ministry of Transport Presents Funding Certificates to HyPerformer Regions
In March, Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder presented funding certificates to the three winning regions of the second round of the "HyLand – Hydrogen Region in Germany" competition in the HyPerformer category. The Rügen-Stralsund, Erfurt, and Rhine-Ruhr regions will receive a total of €30 million in funding and can now begin the implementation phase of their hydrogen projects in the transport sector.
The projects funded under the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology are intended to cover the entire value chain – from production, storage, distribution, and refueling to the use of hydrogen in transport. A three-stage approach, ranging from networking (HyStarter) and concept development (HyExperts) to the implementation of concrete projects (HyPerformer), aims to create regional hydrogen ecosystems. With the newly selected projects, the program now includes 53 funded hydrogen regions in Germany.
At the official handover ceremony, Schnieder emphasized Germany's role as a technology leader in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and explained that this expertise should now be increasingly transferred into practical application. Funding would be specifically targeted at regions that have already established viable structures and now want to take the next step towards implementation in the transport sector, Schnieder stated.
