First Biogas Upgrading Project in Belgium Signed
EnviTec Biogas AG has signed an initial contract with Byont, a leading Belgian energy provider, for the construction of a biogas upgrading plant with CO2 liquefaction. According to the parties involved, the plant will be connected to an existing biogas plant and will process biogas into biomethane. Upon its planned completion in July 2026, it is expected to feed approximately 735 standard cubic meters per hour into the Belgian gas grid. In addition, the plant will produce 24 tons of bio-LCO2 per day, thus making an active contribution to promoting the circular economy of CO2, as Roel Slotman, CEO of Byont, emphasized at the official contract signing.
Connecting the upgrading plant will involve a modernization of the biogas plant. This is the only way to ensure that the entire plant meets current technological standards and all necessary requirements, as Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec, explained.
The biogas producer's technology is gaining international recognition, emphasized Byont CEO Slotman. Two further plants are planned in the Netherlands. These will also be equipped with EnviTec's processing and separation technology to feed biomethane into the national gas grid and simultaneously function as a CO2 capture technology.
