Hydrogen Project WAL Secures Capacity in the H2 Core Grid
The "Hydrogen from Lubmin" (WAL) project has signed a capacity reservation agreement with the transmission system operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH. This secures injection capacity for the production project in the future hydrogen core grid at an early stage, enabling the reliable injection of hydrogen produced in Lubmin into the new transport infrastructure.
With the start of the capacity reservation in mid-March 2026, the operators of the hydrogen core grid have sent an important signal for the ramp-up of the hydrogen market. Connecting large production sites like Lubmin to industrial consumption centers is considered a key prerequisite for establishing a functioning hydrogen market.
Carina Gewehr, Head of Regulation and Market at GASCADE, explained that the signing of the agreement demonstrates that the planned hydrogen infrastructure is already meeting concrete market demand. Adalbert Graff, Managing Director of WAL at CIP, added that the reservation makes it possible to link the planned hydrogen production with potential customers at an early stage and to establish Lubmin as a central production site for green hydrogen.
