Long-term biomethane supply: Uniper and Five BioEnergy agree on seven-year partnership

Uniper will purchase biomethane from three of Spain’s largest biomethane plants, which are operated by Five Bioenergy. The German energy company and the Spanish project developer agreed on this today as part of a seven-year offtake agreement. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027.

With this cooperation, Uniper aims to expand its portfolio of low-carbon energy sources and advance decarbonization, particularly in the transport and maritime sectors. Alongside hydrogen, biomethane is expected to play a key role in creating a sustainable energy mix.

For Five Bioenergy, the partnership marks an important milestone. The collaboration with Uniper confirms the company’s strategy of combining cutting-edge technology with industrial-scale production, says Iván Copín, CIO at Five Bioenergy. The goal, he explains, is to secure a stable market for biomethane and thus help make the vision of a decarbonized Europe a continued reality.
