New Joint Venture for Large-Scale Electrolyser Production in Thuringa
The Konstanz-based plant manufacturer RCT has received the green light to establish industrial production of electrolysers in Germany. The company announced that in December 2025, it signed a cooperation agreement with a production partner in Thuringia, paving the way to start manufacturing hydrogen production systems in the first quarter of 2026.
The focus is on building a production facility for alkaline pressurised electrolysers at the megawatt scale, with an annual production capacity of up to 250 megawatts. Production will initially begin with a 2.5 MW electrolyser system, scheduled for installation and commissioning in the third quarter of 2026 at a German industrial customer.
According to RCT Hydrogen, the alkaline pressurised electrolysis technology offers high efficiency and durability. Together with the Chinese partner Guofuhee, supplying key technological components, and Siemens Digital Industries, responsible for control and automation, the company aims to establish particularly robust production processes.
A key focus of the business model is so-called Hydrogen-as-a-Service solutions: RCT Hydrogen intends to manage the production and operation of hydrogen generation on-site at the customer and offer the produced hydrogen at contractually fixed prices. The company states that this approach is intended to enable energy-intensive industries to switch cost-efficiently to green hydrogen supply.
By entering serial production of electrolysers, RCT Hydrogen not only seeks to expand its presence in the European hydrogen market but also to contribute to deeper local value creation.
