OG Clean Fules Reports: Bio-CNG and Bio-LNG Continue to Gain Ground

OG Clean Fuels GmbH, a member of DIE GAS- UND WASSERSTOFFWIRTSCHAFT, has reported another record year for sales of biomethane and bio-CNG in 2025. According to the company, sales of biomethane at German filling stations quadrupled within the past five years to approximately 286,000 tons. Sales of bio-CNG – biomethane compressed to 200 bar – also continued to rise despite declining trends in the passenger car segment, increasing by almost ten percent compared to the previous year to 110,000 tons.

The strong market position of gaseous fuels is also evident in new registrations of heavy commercial vehicles. According to the Sustainable Heavy Goods Transport platform, initiated by the German Energy Agency (dena), more than 5,000 heavy-duty trucks of class N3 powered by CNG or LNG were registered in Germany as of December 31, 2025. In contrast, according to the federally owned NOW GmbH, there were approximately 2,400 electric and hydrogen-powered trucks.

At the same time, the company is observing an increasing substitution of fossil LNG with bio-LNG. While sales of fossil LNG have continued to decline, sales of bio-LNG reached approximately 164,000 tons in 2025.

Achim Wiedey, Sales Director of OG Clean Fuels Germany, explained that biomethane has proven to be comparatively price-stable even during the current fossil fuel price crisis. Many companies are increasingly recognizing that short-term low diesel prices do not provide a reliable basis for sustainable business development.
