OG Opens 150th CNG Filling Station in Germany
“Even though climate protection seems to be losing prominence in public debate, the pressure on transport companies to adopt environmentally friendly truck propulsion systems is increasing,” reports Achim Wiedey, Germany Sales Director at OG Clean Fuels. He adds, “Both customer expectations and rising costs make it increasingly difficult to economically operate trucks powered by fossil diesel.” As electric trucks cannot be deployed nationwide in the foreseeable future, practical and proven CNG trucks offer an excellent solution. To further facilitate the use of the climate-neutral fuel Bio-CNG in road freight transport, OG Clean Fuels is strategically expanding its German filling station network. In addition to densifying its network, particularly in southern and western Germany, OG aims to prevent coverage gaps. “We specifically focus on locations that are important for road freight transport or are expected to become critical in the future,” Wiedey explains. “After taking over CNG stations from previous operators, we optimize the system technology to meet the requirements of the transport industry.”
At the turn of the year, OG reached the milestone of 150 CNG filling stations in Germany. The OG station in Ludwigsburg exemplifies the market leader’s strategy: “The station is well-located and accessible for semi-trailers. Additionally, we have an anchor customer, the Keller Group from Ditzingen, which, like OG, is committed to all renewable propulsion systems for CO2 reduction.” The Keller Group’s trucks, which operate on behalf of a major southern German car manufacturer, will refuel multiple times a week in Ludwigsburg. OG and the Keller Group maintain close communication and are discussing further development of the site.
Increasing Demand for Bio-CNG
“As Bio-CNG remains the only economical and proven solution for operating heavy trucks in a climate-neutral manner, new customers from all areas of the transport sector are turning to us,” says Wiedey. Demand has particularly surged among regional transport companies in recycling and construction logistics, as well as for long-distance routes between freight centers or food logistics. To ease the transition to environmentally friendly alternative propulsion systems, OG’s team advises companies on driving performance, route planning, and potential refueling stops.
Wiedey highlights that renewable Bio-CNG can be used economically for most transport tasks. “Even with the currently very low price of fossil diesel, our customers save money using renewable Bio-CNG,” says the Sales Director. This is made possible by fixed-price contracts with long-term durations. “Many of our transport and logistics customers now utilize our tailored offers to optimize costs and route planning,” Wiedey emphasizes.
Major logistics companies, driven by their climate protection goals, are increasingly choosing Bio-CNG. They often expect their freight carriers and partners to transition to Bio-CNG as well. “In practice, CO2 emissions can be most significantly reduced with Bio-CNG—offering both an environmentally friendly fuel with a 95% CO2 reduction and climate-neutral or even climate-positive energy,” Wiedey explains. OG also adapts its offerings to meet customers' specific needs.
OG’s Bio-CNG is produced in Germany from waste and residual materials, with the origins of this advanced biofuel fully traceable. “Made in Germany” ensures that customers can rely on a sustainable solution for their transport needs.
