Online Marketplace for Biomethane: Green Navigation draws First Positive Conclusions

Four weeks after the launch of the online marketplace for biomethane, Green Navigation has drawn a positive balance. Interest in the new service is enormous: over 120 participants have already registered on the platform. The participants include producers, traders and users in the heating and fuel market as well as international market players. More than 250 GWh of biomethane of various qualities and delivery periods are currently on offer.

‘We didn't expect such a great response,’ explains Vera Schürmann, Managing Director of Green Navigation GmbH. ‘It is clear that many market players are looking for new ways and opportunities to market or procure biomethane efficiently.’

Strong interest is certainly also due to the provisional insolvency of the major market player Landwärme, which has led to uncertainty among many players. Green Navigation has the impression that some buyers and sellers affected by the insolvency are now repositioning themselves. ‘The time left to conclude new contracts before the end of the year is short,’ says Schürmann, but is confident ’Our platform has proven in recent weeks that fast and effective matching is possible. Even in a challenging market environment, participants can react quickly and flexibly to new circumstances and use the platform to meet their needs.’

With the biomethane online marketplace, Green Navigation offers a forward-looking solution for a dynamic yet complex market. The company will work closely with market players in the coming months to further develop the platform and create even more opportunities. ‘We are already in the process of enabling the marketing of pure quality certificates without physical delivery,’ explains Timo Kubenke, the responsible project manager at Green Navigation, adding, ’We will also be implementing the option of matching quality SWAPs in the current year.’ Quality swaps are an established method of achieving revenue optimisation for users of biomethane. The biomethane online marketplace will significantly simplify the search for suitable counterparts.
