REEFUELERY GmbH Becomes Erdgas Südwest Bio-LNG GmbH

Since August 2024, Erdgas Südwest GmbH has been the sole shareholder of REEFUELERY GmbH. As a result of the new ownership structure, one of Germany's largest biomethane liquefaction plants will operate under the name Erdgas Südwest Bio-LNG GmbH.

In December 2024, the REDcert-certified plant liquefied the first tons of bio-LNG: With capacities of 65,700 tons of bio-LNG or around 1 TWh, up to 3,200 heavy goods vehicles can be operated in a climate-neutral manner each year and 700,000 tons of CO2 can be saved.

The transfer of shares from avanca Energy AG to Erdgas Südwest GmbH took place against the background of the timely completion of the liquefaction plant: while project planning and construction were carried out jointly, operation and management are the responsibility of Erdgas Südwest and its majority shareholder EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. The renaming to Erdgas Südwest Bio-LNG GmbH clarifies the affiliation and field of activity. The cooperation with avanca Energy will continue via its subsidiary Alternoil GmbH. It is one of the future partners for the collection and marketing of Bio-LNG via its nationwide network, which it will continue to expand in order to be able to offer the product across the country.

Contract liquefaction will enable customers to use liquefaction capacities according to their individual needs, convert biomethane into bio-LNG and sell it on. For better planning and increased flexibility, four tanks with a total storage capacity of 540 tons and two loading stations are available at the Burghaun site, which can be used without additional fees. The GHG quota generated during liquefaction remains the property of the customers and can be marketed by them. Erdgas Südwest Bio-LNG GmbH thus acts as a link between biomethane producers and distributors of bio-LNG and opens up new opportunities for farmers, municipal utilities, mineral oil companies and the transport and logistics industry.

The management of Erdgas Südwest Bio-LNG GmbH was handed over to October 1, 2024, when Philipp Machauer took on the role of Commercial Managing Director and Malte Dunkels took over as Technical Managing Director. Machauer had worked for Erdgas Südwest as a project manager since 2020 before moving to the EnBW gas division as a senior manager at the beginning of 2024. Dunkels has around 20 years of professional and management experience in the operation of technical plants, including eleven years in the EnBW contracting division.
