Uniper and Kyuden International Launch Hydrogen Partnership

Uniper SE (“Uniper”), a German company, and Kyuden International Corporation (“Kyuden International”), a member of the Kyuden Group, have signed a letter of intent to explore cooperation in the areas of hydrogen and ammonia trading, renewable energy and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

The partnership aims to create business opportunities in hydrogen and ammonia trading through Uniper's global portfolio of low-carbon and environmentally friendly ammonia and other hydrogen derivatives in combination with Kyuden International's Asian and global activities. In addition, the partnership is expected to help unlock further business expansion opportunities for Kyuden International in Europe by leveraging Uniper's extensive expertise and commitment to developing flexible and dispatchable power generation units in its core markets in Europe.

Both companies plan to further expand their cooperation in order to expand their business areas and actively work towards the realization of a sustainable society.

“We are very excited about the partnership with Kyuden International. With this multi-faceted collaboration, we aim to drive innovative and sustainable solutions. By combining our strengths, we aim to make a significant contribution to Japan's decarbonization efforts while opening up new business opportunities. We highly value this partnership and look forward with confidence to implementing effective change together,” said Andreas Gemballa, CCO of Global Origination at Uniper.

“By partnering with Uniper, a valued company, we aim to expand our business opportunities in Europe and other regions by capitalizing on Uniper's extensive expertise. At the same time, through this partnership, Uniper will drive business development in Asia, where our company has in-depth knowledge. This complementary synergy is expected to drive further growth for both companies. In the future, we will work together to provide optimal solutions to the challenges of our customers in different countries and regions,” said Takashi Mistuyoshi, President of Kyuden International.
