Uniper and Vermilion to Continue Gas Supply Partnership in Germany

Uniper Global Commodities SE and Vermilion Energy Germany GmbH & Co. KG have extended their long-standing cooperation for the supply of German natural gas for another two years. Under the agreement, Vermilion will supply all natural gas production from its German exploration and production activities to Uniper. This strengthens Uniper's portfolio of locally produced gas and contributes to the stability of the gas supply in Germany.

Vermilion has been active in the German market since 2014 and is one of the leading onshore gas producers in Lower Saxony. Compared to imported gas, local production is characterized by a significantly lower CO₂ intensity, thus supporting both security of supply and the reduction of emissions in the energy system.

With this contract extension, both companies are sending a clear signal for stability and reliability in the German gas market – a key element in the current energy supply and in portfolio diversification during the transition to an increasingly decarbonized energy system.

As long as natural gas remains part of the energy mix, domestic natural gas production should be the preferred option. Supplying Uniper with natural gas produced in Germany not only helps reduce CO₂ emissions compared to natural gas imports, but also strengthens the resilience of the German energy system during the transition phase,” emphasized Carsten Poppinga, CCO of Uniper SE.
