Strengthening the Leadership Team: Bengt Bergt Takes Over Public Affairs at Die Gas- und Wasserstoffwirtschaft

  • Former Member of Parliament brings political experience and energy expertise
  • Focus on reliable framework conditions for transforming the energy supply
  • Kehler: “With Bengt Bergt, we gain a distinguished thought leader and bridge-builder”

Die Gas- und Wasserstoffwirtschaft e. V. (The German Gas and Hydrogen Industry) is strengthening its political communications. As of June 1, former SPD Member of the Bundestag Bengt Bergt has joined the association to support the sector’s transformation. CEO Dr. Timm Kehler praised Bergt’s extensive experience.

As of June 1, 2025, Bengt Bergt (43) has taken on the role of Head of Public Affairs at the Gas and Hydrogen Association. In this capacity, he is responsible for the dialogue with policymakers, authorities, and civil society stakeholders. He reports directly to CEO Dr. Timm Kehler.

The former SPD Member of the Bundestag brings substantial experience from both politics and the energy industry. From 2021 to 2025, Bergt served in the German Bundestag, where he acted as Deputy Spokesperson for Energy Policy for the SPD parliamentary group. He played an active role in shaping key aspects of the energy transition and energy security during challenging times, and helped develop an initial concept for a green gas quota. Before his time in parliament, Bergt, a trained technical editor and experienced manager, worked in the energy and mechanical engineering sectors, with a strong focus on climate, energy, and structural transformation.

“I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to bring Bengt Bergt on board as a distinguished thought leader for our leadership team,” said Kehler. “He understands political decision-making processes just as well as the realities faced by businesses. His experience and network will support us in constructively advancing the hydrogen economy and effectively representing our sector’s interests in Berlin and Brussels.”

In his new role, Bergt will lead the association’s strategic advocacy efforts. His priorities include shaping stable, technology-neutral framework conditions for the transformation of the energy system and building reliable alliances with policymakers, public authorities, and civil society.

“I look forward to this new role in an association that bridges energy policy, industry, and societal change,” said Bergt. “Climate protection requires pragmatism, innovation, and sincere dialogue. That is exactly what I want to work for.” Bengt Bergt succeeds Annegret-Claudine Agricola, who held the position until her passing last year.
