Didriksons inspired by Japan in this autumn’s men’s collection

The Japanese lifestyle philosophy of Wabi Sabi (Wabi means ‘beautiful’ and Sabi means ‘worn’) is all about acknowledging that everything is in a constant process of change and that there is beauty in imperfection. This was the source of inspiration for the Didriksons design department developing the Men’s Autumn’s collection, that combines rusty, shabby camouflage design expressions with the clean lines of Japanese style.

This autumn’s men’s collection from Didriksons showcases a new silhouette: a little younger, a little sharper, a little more edgy, aiming to stand out from the crowd. The result is a fine balance where the men’s collection – just like the women’s collection – positions itself at the intersection between recreational clothing and fashion, while at the same time meeting Didriksons’ mission to inspire more people to spend more time outdoors. Part of this inspiration comes from Wabi Sabi – a Japanese philosophy of life that is reflected in much of Didriksons’ outerwear. August Gille, designer for the collection, explains:

“The inspiration for this season’s colours comes from insight into how nature changes the things we human beings create. Oxidised metal, rust and moss suddenly become elegant when the context changes. Nature adds refinement by distorting perspective. We found our colour palette in nature’s way of breaking down and transforming our clean, straight lines into irregular and attractive contours.
”The print on the Hilmer Parka is a clear example of this – you can picture a shipwreck on the seabed, you can imagine how the hull changes colour over time,” says August.

In addition to its graphic details and the colours that stand out, the collection is clearly function-driven, something for which Didriksons is renowned. August Gille and his team have worked to evolve a new expression, which can be seen for example in the Elmer vest, which features a traditional Japanese fit with broader waist.

“We wanted to push the boundaries within the framework of our traditional outdoors and out-leisure style. What we see in the collection is a combination of dressy style for all occasions and weathers, along with an individual style that stands out from the conventional black and grey. With this collection we’ve created a more appealing, a more colourful, autumn experience,” says August.

The new releases in this autumn’s Didriksons men’s collection will be available in stores and online at didriksons.com from the end of September, and include the following jackets:

Hilmer

The story behind Hilmer lies in its print, created by designer Hanna Isaksson who was also behind last year’s popular Remi parka. For Hilmer, Hanna got her inspiration from the Japanese Wabi Sabi lifestyle philosophy where she took a well-known camouflage pattern theme but let nature transform and refine it. Hilmer is also available in black, Opti Blue, Deep Green, Clay Beige and Sabi Orange.

Price: EUR 330

Hilmer Long

A long warm-lined down coat that not only shields against inhospitable autumn weather, it is also bang on trend for anyone who wants to be smartly dressed and at the same time keep warm. Hilmer Long is available in classic black or stylish Clay Beige with brown detailing on the shoulders.

Price: EUR 350.

Nore

Vivid orange with black detailing is here to stay and can now be seen in this autumn’s Nore.
Thanks to its unique design this classic Didriksons parka is modular in its expression and can be worn in a number of different ways. The silhouette can be altered and easily adjusted to suit the current outfit. In addition to Vivid Orange, Nore is also available in black.

Price: EUR 400.

Bror

Didriksons continues with last season’s pile trend, introducing an updated pile jacket in the form of Bror. Here too we see Sabi Orange, with black as an alternative choice.

Price: EUR 100.

Elmer

Vests are on the march and Elmer has been specially designed to match the Bror pile jacket. Offering both a smart and functional look while also working very well with a T-shirt or dress shirt, it can work equally well indoors or outdoors. Elmer has a Japanese silhouette with a wider waist. Available in a choice of black or Vivid Orange.

Price: EUR 180.
