Kevin Magnussen aiming for strong WEC finale in Bahrain
The Danish BMW factory driver is looking to finish the season on a high when the eighth and final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship takes place in Bahrain this weekend.
The final race of the season is approaching for Kevin Magnussen and the rest of the BMW M Team WRT squad, who are preparing to take on the FIA World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain this weekend. The Dane and his teammates, Dries Vanthoor and Raffaele Marciello, are hoping to end the year towards the sharp end of the 18-car Hypercar field when the world’s fastest sports cars are unleashed for the eight-hour race on Saturday afternoon local time.
After a challenging season with both highs and lows, the German factory team is not in contention for the championship titles. However, that does not change the ambition level within the team, which has shown strong pace at several points throughout the year – Magnussen, Vanthoor and Marciello finished just outside the podium with fourth place in the season opener in Qatar, while their teammates in the sister car secured second place at Imola in the spring.
"It’s no secret that this season has been a challenging one for us, and result-wise we haven’t achieved what we had hoped for. But we focus on the strong performances and learn from the difficult ones. That’s the approach throughout the entire team, and my first year with BMW has been exciting and educational. Every new race is a new opportunity, and I hope we can finish the season strongly here in Bahrain," says Kevin Magnussen.
Preparations for the final round of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship began on Thursday, 6 November, followed by qualifying on Friday, 7 November. The eight-hour race goes green on Saturday, 8 November at 14:00 local time (12:00 CET) and will end under the floodlights. The race can be watched live on FIA WEC TV.
