IMSA: Frederik Schandorff Aims to Continue Podium Success in Canada
After scoring podium finishes at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park two years in a row, the Danish Ferrari driver hopes to secure another top result in the sixth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Frederik Schandorff returns to IMSA competition this weekend for round six of the GTD season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The Dane will once again share the Inception Racing Ferrari with his regular teammate Brendan Iribe, and the pair have shown strong form in this year’s American GT3 series.
The team currently sits at the top of the Endurance Cup standings, which comprise the season’s long-distance races, while Brendan Iribe also leads the Bob Akin Championship – a title for FIA-rated Bronze drivers, with the grand prize being an invitation to the 2026 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Our main goal in the sprint races this season is to score as many Bob Akin points as possible – and that’s our target again this weekend,” says Frederik Schandorff.
Still, the Dane doesn’t hide the fact that the ambitions go further. Schandorff and Iribe have finished on the podium in Canada in each of the past two seasons – with a second place in 2023 and a third in 2024 – and fresh off a runner-up finish in the six-hour race at Watkins Glen, the Danish-American duo is chasing yet another trophy.
“We’ve had good success in Canada the past couple of years, and it’s a seriously cool track that I really enjoy driving. Hopefully, we can carry the strong momentum from Watkins Glen into this weekend and make it three podiums in a row in Canada,” adds Schandorff.
The two-hour and 40-minute IMSA race goes green on Sunday, July 13 at 2:05 p.m. local time
