Mathias Villadsen Continues Progress with Strong Mugello Weekend

The Danish GT3 rookie secured two finishes in the top half of the field as the fifth round of the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo took place at Mugello Circuit.

The objective was continued progress – and Mathias Villadsen delivered on several fronts during the fifth round of the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo, held in scorching conditions at Mugello Circuit last weekend. Competing in his first full season of GT3 racing, the Danish sports car talent finished 14th and 15th overall in the weekend's two sprint races. Villadsen was particularly impressive in Sunday's race, climbing from 23rd on the grid to finish well inside the top half of the field.

The Dane ended both races among the top 15 of the 30-car GT3 field while also securing 11th place in the Pro class on both occasions. However, it is the continued progress behind the wheel that Villadsen values most after another productive and educational weekend in one of Europe's most competitive GT3 championships.

"It was another weekend with a huge amount of learning. We've been working on several functions of the car that I've become much better at using – especially the brake balance, which I'm now adjusting much more actively during the races. Tyre management was another major focus. Mugello is extremely demanding on the tyres, and you lose a lot of time if you don't look after them properly. That makes it a real challenge to combine outright pace with consistency over an entire stint,” said Mathias Villadsen.

"When you consider that this is my first season in a GT3 championship, competing against experienced factory drivers and factory-supported teams, I'm very happy with the weekend. At the start of the season, our goal was simply to break into the overall top 20 and avoid finishing at the back of the class. We achieved both of those goals quite some time ago, so now the next target is to fight for top-10 finishes."

Villadsen's next challenge comes on September 6 at the iconic Imola Formula 1 circuit, where the sixth round – and the third Endurance round – of the season will take place. There, the Danish driver will once again share his BMW M4 GT3 with his coach and teammate, Jan Magnussen.
