Mikkel Jensen ready for second half of the FIA WEC season
Four weeks after Le Mans, Peugeot factory driver Mikkel Jensen is back in action at Brazil’s Interlagos circuit, which also marks the start of the second half of the World Endurance Championship season.
Mikkel Jensen is hoping for better fortunes as he lines up alongside the rest of Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for round five of the FIA World Endurance Championship this coming weekend. The six-hour race, held at the Brazilian Formula 1 circuit Interlagos, marks the beginning of the season’s second half, which so far has proven challenging for the French factory squad.
While Jensen, Jean-Éric Vergne and Paul Di Resta scored points in the opening two rounds of the season, Le Mans turned out to be a disappointing affair, with a 17th-place finish following technical issues that required an extended garage stop.
“New weekend, new race. I think we’re all excited to get going again and shake off a frustrating Le Mans. Up until then, we had shown good form in the championship, even though we’re still not quite fighting at the very front of the Hypercar field – which is, of course, where we want to be,” says Mikkel Jensen.
As Vergne is unavailable due to Formula E commitments, it will be up to Jensen and Di Resta alone to try and score points in Brazil. It’s a race that went fairly well in 2024, when the Dane helped secure an eighth-place finish in the six-hour event after starting from the back of the field.
“It’ll be interesting to see what we can achieve this year. The track has been resurfaced since our last visit, so that could go either way. I believe – and hope – that we’ll have a good race. Our goal is to finish in the top five,” the Dane concludes.
While free practice gets underway on Friday, the six-hour world championship race goes green on Sunday 13 July at 11:30 local time. The race will be broadcast live on TV 2 Play, Eurosport and FIA WEC TV.
