IMSA: Mikkel Jensen Unlucky at Watkins Glen

It turned into a weekend to forget for Mikkel Jensen and TDS Racing, who were forced to retire from the IMSA season’s six-hour race following an unfortunate crash.

What had looked like a promising IMSA weekend for Jensen and the TDS Racing crew ended in disappointment with an early accident and a DNF. Just 15 laps into the six-hour race at Watkins Glen, Jensen’s teammate Steven Thomas was involved in a collision that caused significant damage to the team’s LMP2 car, making it impossible to continue.

The incident occurred in the early stages of the race when a sudden rain shower swept over the historic American Formula 1 circuit, creating chaos on track. A fellow LMP2 car had come to a standstill mid-corner, and with heavy traffic and limited visibility, a violent impact became unavoidable. Fortunately, none of the drivers involved were injured.

“It was a real shame. Things were looking really good until the crash – we had strong pace, and Steven (Thomas) had secured us a front-row start after a great qualifying. Unfortunately, we didn’t get very far before it was over. It’s a big disappointment and of course a huge blow to our championship, where we’ve now missed out on a lot of points,” said Mikkel Jensen.

“But the most important thing is that everyone walked away unharmed. It was a heavy crash, and even though the team now has a big job ahead of them, what really matters is that everyone is okay. We’ll get back on the horse and look ahead to the next round in Canada.”

The next race for Mikkel Jensen and TDS Racing is Round 4 of the American LMP2 Championship, taking place on July 13 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – also known as Mosport – in Ontario, Canada.
