The Spanish airports reduce of their emissions by 66%

The Spanish Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Spanish Airports and Aerial Navigation, AENA in Spanish) entity has announced that it has beaten the emissions reduction target set for 2021 by over a 6%, with a total reduction of 66.2%, proving the effectiveness of its Climate Action Plan.

The purchase of 100% guaranteed renewable origin electricity was also kept in 2021. Also, 0.81% of renewable electric energy was produced as self-supply from wind turbines and photovoltaic systems already in use, thanks to progress in the commissioning and implementation of new photovoltaic systems at different AENA airports, as is the case with the César Manrique-Lanzarote and Tenerife Sur airports.

In addition, AENA continues to implement further energy efficiency initiatives such as the adaptation of the energy consumption to actual airport operations, replacing the lighting systems with more efficient technologies, replacing air conditioning and heating devices with more efficient equipment, and implementing automatic regulation of lighting regulation.
