Press release -

The use of masks indoors is no longer compulsory in Spain

From 20 April 2022, it is not mandatory to wear a mask either outdoors or indoors in Spain. The Spanish Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has argued that the high rates of vaccination against COVID-19 and the epidemiological situation in Spain have made it possible to adopt this measure, which has been published today on the Spanish Official State Gazette. However, there are some exemptions in which the use of masks is still mandatory:

1. If you are traveling by plane, train or bus, as well as on all public passenger transport.

2. If you are traveling on ships or boats in case it is not possible to maintain a distance of 1.5 m, except in cabins, when they are shared by groups of cohabitants.

3. In health centres, services and establishments such as health care centres, hospitals or pharmacies/drugstores.

4. In social health care centres, workers and visitors must wear a mask in shared areas.
