Almost 90 % of Finnish travellers have a positive perception of Spain as a travel destination

The Spanish Tourist Office in Helsinki and Travellyze, a cloud-based tourism analytics platform, have released the Spain Destination Brand Awareness Report, which shows how Finnish travellers perceive Spain and compares the results with the main competitors of Spain as a tourist destination.

The report shows that Spain is a strong travel destination and it is doing well among Finnish travellers, since Spain ranks #4 out of 130 destination in the global destination image index, which is calculated using an algorithm based on perception, experience and awareness. About 90 % of the Finnish travellers claim to be aware of Spain as a travel destination and almost 90 % of Finnish travellers have a positive perception of the country. More than half of the Finnish travellers would like to visit Spain in the future, and more than 55 % of the Finnish travellers that have already visited Spain would like to visit again.

In terms of destination experience, Spain ranks number 3 out of 130 destinations. The main competitors of Spain are Italy (#5), Greece (#10), France (#17) and Turkey (#49). For the Finnish travellers that have visited Spain, key destination factors are: nature/outdoors activities, going to the beach, exciting food experience opportunities, cultural experiences and environmental concerns and sustainability.

The ultimate Finnish traveller

According to the report, the ultimate Finnish traveller to Spain is 55-64 years old, with an education level of vocational education, married or in cohabitation and with an average household income of 36 000 – 58 999 euros. The ultimate traveller enjoys sun and beach holidays, relaxing holidays and cultural holidays. For the holidays, the ultimate traveller usually prefers booking flights and accommodation separately online and prefers 3 or 4 star hotels or budget hotels. The ultimate Finnish traveller seeks inspiration for choosing the destination among family and friends, search engines, travel company sites and travel agency recommendations.
