Spain approves aid worth €170 million to finance energy efficiency projects for tourism companies

The forecast for this year is that 2,622 tourist establishments will renew and improve their energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

On March 15, 2022, the Council of Ministers of Spain authorized the distribution among autonomous communities and autonomous cities of 170 million euros for financing energy efficiency projects and circular economy projects in tourism companies as part of the Spanish plan for Next Generation EU funds.

According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism , Reyes Maroto , "the government intends to increase the competitiveness of our tourism companies with these investments by promoting energy efficiency and circular economy projects that reduce energy costs and the carbon footprint". According to the Recovery Plan, 170 million euros will be invested in projects in 2,627 establishments across Spain this year. Additionally, tourism companies will be able to finance sustainable projects through the State Financial Fund for Tourism Competitiveness (FOCIT), which has an endowment of €570M.

The distribution by Autonomous Community takes into account the estimated number of rooms and establishments open on a monthly basis in each community or city:
