Spain will host SMAL’s Spring Event in 2023

The Spanish city of Seville will host the Spring Event of SMAL (the Association of Finnish Travel Industry) in 2023. The announcement was made during the Autumn Meeting of SMAL, which took place in Tampere on 13 October 2022.

SMAL organises each year one of its main annual meetings abroad. In collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office, SMAL has decided that the next Spring Event will take place in Spain, in the city of Seville from 13 to 15 April 2023. The meeting will gather around 100 representatives of the different entities that make up the association.

According to Julio Jiménez, Director of the Spanish Tourist Office in Helsinki, “the meeting in Seville will be a true showcase of Spain for the Finnish market, and will bring together the main agents of the tourism sector of the Nordic country in Seville”. The program will include technical visits to the city and the region, as well as a welcome dinner for the participants and the celebration of the associated meetings.

For the success of the celebration, the Spanish Tourism Office in Helsinki will participate in the organisation of the event, together with SMAL and the local and regional tourism promotion entities in Seville and Andalusia.

Andalusia has a long history of welcoming Finnish tourist to Spain. In 2019, the region attracted more than 239 000 Finnish travellers (around 31 % of the total visitors to Spain) and it was the second most important region after the Canary Islands. The city of Seville is also well known among Finns: The Giralda, the Cathedral and the Alcazar are three buildings that have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city counts with 170 km of cycle paths and in its premises several blockbusters have been filmed, from Star Wars to Game of Thrones.
