    Unloading of Almirante Storni proceeding according to plan

    Since the bulk carrier Almirante Storni called at the port of Gothenburg on Saturday, the job of extinguishing and unloading the damaged goods on the ship has been ongoing in parallel. The work has continued during the night until Sunday and continues continuously and according to plan.

    Fossil-free last mile transport for rail shuttles operating to and from the Port of Gothenburg

    Eskilstuna, Hallsberg and Jönköping are three of the most important freight distribution hubs in Sweden. The Port of Gothenburg is linking these towns to the continent with 19 departures each week. The freight carried on the shuttles is transported by truck between the terminals and local warehouses and logistics centres. Since November 5, these transport movements are fossil-free.

    The Port of Gothenburg and Norwegian energy company Statkraft are planning to construct a hydrogen production facility at the port, with operations due to commence in 2023. Initially the facility will have a capacity of four MW, producing up to two tonnes of hydrogen per day.

The Port Optimizer™ Track & Trace app is being launched by the Port Authority of Gothenburg to make it easier for freight owners and rail and terminal operators to track their freight in real time from quayside to inland destination.

    Dredge spoil disposal system planned for fairway deepening project

    In order to receive the world’s largest oceangoing vessels, the fairway leading into the Port of Gothenburg needs to be deepened by around four metres and six kilometres of fairway need to be dredged. Around 13.5 million cubic metres of spoils will need to be excavated and transported to a designated water area off the island of Vinga.

    The launch of the new digital Berth Planner tool, Allberth, is under way. The first to use this new smart service is Port Control – which receives all calls at the Port of Gothenburg – and the safety and security coordinators at the Energy Terminal.     Port of Gothenburg freight flows rise despite global disruptions

    Freight volumes continued to rise at the Port of Gothenburg during the first six months of the year, reaching their highest during the second quarter. This was despite major disruptions in global freight flows in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent impact on logistics systems.

    The Port of Gothenburg has been named as one of the top 10 per cent of employers in Sweden who are committed to gender equality in the workplace. This is revealed in a survey for 2020 conducted by the Institute of Human Resource Indicators.

    The Port of Gothenburg will offer shoreside power for tankers from 2023

    It is now confirmed that the Energy Port in Gothenburg will be next in line in the expansion of the shoreside power network at the Port of Gothenburg. The Energy Port will be the first energy port in the world with this particular offer. It is estimated that shoreside power at the Energy Port will reduce carbon emissions from vessels by 1,800 tonnes per year.
