Press release -
New shipping line between St Petersburg and Gothenburg
A new freight line has been opened up between St Petersburg and the Port of Gothenburg. The Singapore headquartered shipping line X-Press Container Line has commenced operating a loop from Russia to Scandinavia, down to the continent and back to Russia.
The new shipping line will be the first regular service between Russia and the Port of Gothenburg.
"This is an example of how the growing market in Russia is having a positive impact on the Port of Gothenburg," says Magnus Kårestedt, President of the Port of Gothenburg.
After St Petersburg the vessel calls into Kotka, Gothenburg, Zeebrugge, Amsterdam and Hamburg. It then makes its way back to St Petersburg.
This route is serviced by feeder vessels. The freight comprises mainly export goods from Russia.
X-Press Container Line is already a Port of Gothenburg customer and has two other existing services. Agent in Sweden for X-Press Container Line is Melship AB.
"Our aim at the Port of Gothenburg is that within eight years we will be handling twice the volume of goods. Growth is vital if we are to retain our position as the largest port in the Nordic region and if we are to continue to offer the whole of Swedish industry good, effective sea transport. Each new agreement is an important step towards achieving this goal," says Magnus Kårestedt, President of the Port of Gothenburg.
