This week the Port of Gothenburg will set up two charging posts for electric cars outside the head office at Amerikaskjulet. All visitors to Amerikaskjulet can charge their electric cars at no cost. Staff at the Port of Gothenburg will also have an electric car at their disposal that can be used for work-related transport.
The most powerful wind turbine in Sweden is currently being built at Risholmen at the entrance to the Port of Gothenburg. The foundation has been laid and the components are due to arrive in the Port of Gothenburg on Sunday. The new wind turbine will be capable of producing 15 million kWh each year, five times more than a normal wind turbine.
Late on Friday evening it was announced that the Port of Gothenburg was one of the winners in the prestigious Energy Globe Awards 2011 for its work on shoreside power connection for vessels at berth. The award, EUR 10,000 and a 17 kg bronze statue, was presented at a gala in Austria.
On Friday the Energy Globe World Awards 2011 will be presented in Vienna, Austria. The Energy Globe World Awards are among the most prestigious environmental awards in the world. One of the almost 1,000 entries from 105 countries was the Port of Gothenburg, nominated for its work on shoreside power connection of vessels at berth.
The largest port in the Nordic region is getting into the Christmas spirit. The Gothenburg Lucia Group, with hard rock guitarist Magnus Rosén (former bass guitarist with Hammarfall), will perform for port workers at the Älvsborg Ro/Ro Terminal. The stage will be the DFDS Seaways vessel Tor Freesia.
Gothenburg in Sweden is a clean city with beautiful green areas. The people have a good knowledge of languages and are friendly, particularly the taxi drivers. However, information at the quayside and transport into the city centre could be improved. These are just some of the views of the passengers on the cruise ships that put into Gothenburg during the summer.
Fifteen vessels have already been signed up for the Port of Gothenburg campaign for a cleaner marine and air environment. The vessels are operated by the shipping lines TransAtlantic, Stena Oil, Tärntank AB and Topoil AB. The campaign means that vessels that opt to use cleaner fuel whilst in port waters will receive financial compensation.
Today Swedish port history will be written. One of the world's largest container terminal operators, APM Terminals, will take over the Skandia Container Terminal at the Port of Gothenburg. APM Terminals will roll out an investment programme totalling USD 115 million over the next five years.
