Limited edition care bag by Matilda Söderlund helps climbers patch up between adventures

The ROC Sloper Bag has arrived, and it’s filled with the essentials climbers need to repair and care for their hands and gear before taking on the next vertical challenge.

Haglöfs’ limited edition ROC Sloper Bag is the result of a co-design project with record-breaking Swedish climber and Haglöfs ambassador Matilda Söderlund. Made out of a bright and colorful patchwork of leftover fabrics, each multi-bag is filled–in partnership with FabPatch and ClimbSkin–with the tools and products climbers need to make quick repairs to hands and gear pre or mid-adventure. As part of Haglöfs’ upcoming “ROC Hands” Instagram challenge, consumers from the global climbing community will have the chance to win a ROC Sloper Bag personally signed by Matilda.

The idea behind the ROC Sloper Bag was centered on care.

“It’s not unusual for the condition of the skin on my hands to be the deciding factor for my ability to attempt a specific route one day,” says Matilda Söderlund. “When you’re climbing, your hands are your primary point of contact with the climbing surface, and any injury or discomfort can seriously impact your ability to climb effectively. So optimal skin management and care is essential.”

Tough and multi-purpose design made from leftover fabrics

Taking the ROC Sloper Bag from concept to design was a co-design effort between Matilda Söderlund and Sigrid Schiötz-Olssen, Haglöfs Assistant Designer. While Matilda contributed the climbing knowledge and experience, Sigrid helped bring the bag to life using the Haglöfs design language.

“My first thought was, ‘how can I design this so that it can be used both for climbing and as an everyday kind of bag?’” says Sigrid. “So multi-functionality was an important guideline, as was the bag’s ability to evoke emotional excitement, and the sustainable use of materials. We have been using leftover materials whenever possible at Haglöfs for quite some time now, and this project gave us another opportunity to do that.”

In addition to being ready to hold care essentials, the ROC Sloper Bag is equipped to serve as a chalk or boulder bag, or an all-around lifestyle bag. It features an adjustable strap, easy-access pockets, one main compartment for chalk, and a webbing loop for a chalk brush. Thanks to the patchwork of leftover materials, each bag is one-of-a-kind.

In partnership with FabPatch and Climbskin

Each ROC Sloper Bag contains essentials curated by Matilda that can be used both during the adventure or afterward when extra care is needed. These include hand cream, tape, a file, and rub-on patches for clothing or other gear. Among her selections are all-time climber favorites by FabPatch and Climbskin, who have partnered with Haglöfs to fill the bags.

What’s in the bag?

  • A pair of FabPatch™ rub-on patches: Strong, water repellent, and slightly stretchy patches for quick repair of clothing and gear
  • Climbskin Hand Cream: Moisturizing, soothing and regenerating cream for improved climbing performance
  • Climbskin Tape: Breathable and hypoallergenic finger tape for skin tears, flappers, or an extra layer of protection
  • Skin file by Climbskin: Curved dual-sided skin file adapts to natural contours of fingers and comes with four extra sandpapers, two in each texture

FabPatch™ is a repair innovation for textiles by Finnish moms that has gained traction in the climbing community. The strong and water repellent, yet slightly stretchy FabPatch Extreme patches can be used to repair holes or tears in clothes and gear easily, even on the fly.

Climbskin is a unique, innovative, and high quality cream that absorbs quickly and deeply moisturizes, soothes and replenishes skin. It contains the most potent skin regenerative agents found in nature, and helps improve the performance of climbers of any level.

Win a bag through the #ROCHands challenge

As part of the ROC Hands Challenge, a limited number of ROC Sloper Bags filled with climbing care essentials will be given away for free. Haglöfs Instagram followers will be invited to share one of their latest climbing adventure stories by posting a picture of their hands post-climb. Winners will receive a bag signed by Matilda.

The ROC Hands challenge—and the chance to win a ROC Sloper Bag—will commence on the 5thof June. Keep an eye on Haglöfs’ Instagram feed for updates.
