Tom-Oliver Hedvall’s journey from fjord to mountaintop (and all the moments in between)
Tom-Oliver and his friends know from experience that a journey isn’t defined by a goal, but the shared moments in between. Especially following a trio of documented adventures which took them trekking, mountaineering and touring across the Swedish wilderness.
As every outdoor adventurer knows: a journey isn’t defined by a goal, but the moments in between. Especially those moments that are shared in good company. This was certainly the case for the pro Swedish free skier and Haglöfs Outsider Tom-Oliver Hedvall. He just reported back from a trio of journeys in the Swedish wilderness that took him and his friends from fjord to mountaintop last spring.
“For me, a journey is all the expected and the unexpected things that happen on the road,” says Tom-Oliver. “A journey can be so much—big, small, mental, physical. You can have plenty of journeys going on at the same time. Some of them start and stop, while others continue your whole life. What’s significant for me is the fact that I grow as a person each time I take them.”
Trekking, touring, and mountaineering through Sweden with an as low carbon footprint as possible
Last spring, Tom-Oliver and his friends embarked on a series of journeys in Sweden. First, they trekked around Åby Fjord, then they loaded the ski rack and went touring in Skräckerfjällen. And, finally, they topped it all off with a mountaineering adventure on Kebnekaise.
“These journeys taught me a lot, and I had a really good time together with nice people,” says Tom-Oliver, reflecting on the whole experience. “Not least, they opened my eyes even more to how much the Swedish wilderness has to offer. I learned that I don’t have to travel far to have a mind-blowing experience.”
Being able to pursue these adventures, choosing transportation with an as low carbon footprint as possible was another highlight that defined the journey for Tom-Oliver. Whenever possible, he and his friends used alternative ways to get to the next destination—including a sailboat, e-bikes, and skis.
“For me, when I choose alternative transportation methods, the journey becomes even more appreciable. When I travel slower, using my own engine to move forward, I see and experience so much more and I have more time to take in my surroundings.”

During this fall, a series of short films and photographs documenting Tom-Oliver’s journeys through Sweden will be released. Giving Haglöfs followers the chance to catch a glimpse of some of the stunning landscapes and memorable moments the group of adventurers experienced.
