When selecting an insulated jacket, it's essential to consider several key factors to ensure optimal comfort. Here are some insights from Jenny Spiik, Senior Material Technologist at Haglöfs’.
“First, consider your activity level and the nature of your activities—whether hiking, skiing, or running errands in town. This will influence your need for breathability and effective moisture management. Next, assess the environmental conditions: whether you're in a cold and dry or cold and wet climate will impact your choice, along with humidity levels and moisture concerns.
“Packability and weight are also crucial, especially for backpacking or travel. The weight of the jacket, in relation to the type of insulation, will determine how easy it is to carry on your trips. Understanding your intended use will help you identify which features are most important.
“Finally, think about your insulation preferences. Do you prefer synthetic insulation or natural materials? At Haglöfs, we offer jackets suitable for various activities, featuring both traceable natural down and recycled synthetic insulation options.”
H Down—Haglöfs’ natural, traceable down
H DOWN is Haglöfs’ natural range of down insulation, obtained with guaranteed responsible sourcing and ethical practices. It offers steadfast warmth alongside light, lofty, and breathable comfort and great packability. H DOWN Gold and Platinum additionally feature hydrophobic treatments that drastically reduce water absorption for longer performance in wet conditions. H DOWN Platinum can withstand at least 10,000 minutes of exposure to wet conditions (that’s a full week).
Made for everyday use in moderately cold weather to higher intensity activities in extremely cold and variable conditions.

MIMIC—Haglöfs’ lightweight, recycled synthetic insulation
MIMIC is Haglöfs' synthetic insulation made from durable, recycled polyester fibers. It is naturally hydrophobic and will provide warmth even when wet. Garments insulated with MIMIC are easy to care for and maintain their shape even after many washes or after being compressed for a long time. It is made for active or everyday use in cold and damp conditions, ranging from moderate to extreme.
MIMIC Silver is synthetic insulation made of recycled, lofty polyester fibers. It offers an even distribution of warmth, as well as good durability and wind resistance.
MIMIC Gold is synthetic insulation made of loose, recycled fill fibers. It is lightweight, easy to compress and pack, highly durable, and has excellent insulating properties—even when it becomes wet.
MIMIC Platinum additionally contains the Nobel-prize winning material graphene, making it heat up faster and hold the warmth for longer.
