Löfbergs Sustainability Report: "Forward since 1906"

When my great grandfather founded Löfbergs in 1906 in Karlstad, it was never just about roasting coffee, it was about building a company for the future. That long term perspective still defines the business today.

Being family-owned means carrying a responsibility that extends far beyond the next quarter, and as a family business, we do not take shortcuts. We know that our decisions affect people, the environment and communities, both today and far into the future.

Sustainability is therefore not a separate track, but an integrated part of the business. From our work at origin to our choices of transport, packaging and product development, the ambition remains the same: to continuously take the next step forward.

We were early adopters of certified coffee and aluminium free packaging, but it is not enough to rely on past achievements. Our responsibility is to continue driving progress, even when the solutions are not yet obvious.

Our commitment in coffee producing countries is central. As one of the founders of International Coffee Partners, Löfbergs collaborates with six other family owned coffee roasters to strengthen opportunities for small scale coffee farmers to achieve sustainable livelihoods. In parallel, The Löfberg Family Foundation contributes to long term development in coffee growing regions.

On the ground in coffee producing countries, sustainability becomes tangible. I have met farmers who, through knowledge, collaboration and new technology, have been able to improve both harvests and living conditions. It is in those meetings that our responsibility becomes truly clear.

Today, Löfbergs is one of the largest family-owned coffee roasters in the Nordics, exporting to around twenty markets. This growth has happened without compromising our core values, and always with taste and quality at the centre.

Our 120-year history of great tasting coffee gives us stability, but it is the future that drives us forward. Being a family business gives us the freedom to think long term, and the courage to invest in a more sustainable coffee industry.

To me, coffee is not just a beverage, it is something that brings people together across the world, even in turbulent times when it is more important than ever to support one another and spread hope.

Coffee creates connection and community, wherever you are in the world. Our responsibility is to make sure that every cup also reflects consideration for those who have made it possible.

2025 was another challenging year for the coffee industry. High coffee prices, extreme weather and uncertain harvests put pressure on the entire value chain. Despite this, Löfbergs’ latest sustainability report highlights several concrete advances – from development projects in coffee-producing countries and regenerative coffee to fossil-free sea freight, more circular packaging and reduced waste.
