New Survey: Coffee Remains a Daily Habit for 8 in 10 Swedes
Eight in ten Swedes drink coffee regularly. Filter coffee continues to dominate, and a majority of consumers still perceive coffee as good value for money. These are the key findings from the third edition of the Löfbergs Coffee Report - the most comprehensive survey of coffee consumption habits in Sweden.
"Swedes remain deeply committed to their coffee. That coffee consumption remains at such a high level shows just how firmly rooted coffee culture is in Sweden," says Anders Thorén, Head of Corporate Communications at Löfbergs.
Filter coffee still the clear favourite
Filter coffee continues to lead the Swedish market. Seventy per cent say it is their most frequently consumed coffee type, and 85 per cent of coffee drinkers have had filter coffee in the past month, placing it well ahead of instant coffee, which ranks second at 25 per cent.
When asked which time of day is most important for drinking coffee, 68 per cent say the morning, followed by 18 per cent late morning and 6 per cent in the afternoon.
"For many Swedes, filter coffee is an essential part of the morning routine. Previous reports show that 55 per cent drink their first cup before 8 a.m. - a clear sign that coffee helps Sweden wake up," says Anders Thorén.
Coffee retains its perceived value
Coffee prices have increased over the past year, yet a majority of coffee drinkers still believe coffee is worth the price. Sixty-one per cent say today's retail price is low or good value, and 79 per cent drink as much coffee as before - or more.
"There is no doubt that Swedish consumers place a high value on coffee. The survey also shows that coffee is the beverage people are most willing to pay for, compared with juice, milk, soft drinks and energy drinks," says Anders Thorén.
Founded in 1906 and still family-owned, Löbergs is one of the largest coffee roasters in the Nordics.
