2024 in Review: The sweat, the spirit, and the 609,415 km of purpose
Remember that feeling in class when you're convinced your legs can't possibly keep going, you’re gasping for air, but then your instructor drops that perfect track and suddenly you're revitalized? That was Motosumo's 2024 in a nutshell. This year we felt the burn as we pushed boundaries, expanded horizons, and proved that there's no mountain too high to climb when our community comes together.
Pedaling with purpose: Our impact journey
2024 was a big year for Motosumo, we turned sweat equity into real change. Our riders – that's you! – pedaled a mind-blowing 609,415 kilometers. That's the same as circling the Earth 15 times, or as we like to think of it, 15 victory laps for every cause we supported this year. And let’s not forget our wonderful partners who’ve been with us every step of the way! It really is a team effort.
Our Cycle For Change campaigns, which always aim to unite people for a common goal of making a positive impact on our world, brought out the best in our community:
- February's #TrainForChildren partnered with Save the Children, raising $1,500 for kids who need it most.
- April's #TrainForBrains focused on mental health with $1,355 for the Mental Health Foundation UK.
- August's #TrainForSchools powered up education in Kenya with $1,500 for a mobile physics lab.
- November's #TrainForMovember was supercharged by our friends at Fitness On Demand, who joined us as a donation partner, and helped us raise $2,366 for men's health.
While all campaigns fit into our values, our Movember campaign was especially important because it encapsulated what we can achieve when we team up, dig deep, and ride together for a cause. And yes, we're proud of the money raised. But we're just as proud of the community that showed up and worked hard.
More than miles: Supporting key UN SDGs
You may think we spent all our time pedaling for charity, but there's more to the story. This year, we shed a light on how Motosumo contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In an October blog, we highlighted SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, showing how serious we are about our role in the bigger picture. We are not just building strong calf muscles; we want to be part of building a better world. Our tech helps extend the life of gym equipment (SDG 12!), making fitness accessible to everyone (that's SDG 3 in action), and giving Mother Earth a break by cutting down on those gym commutes (SDG lucky 13!).
Breaking down barriers, building up community
2024 was the year we said "¡Hola!" and "Olá!" to millions of new potential riders by launching classes in Spanish and Portuguese. Because great workouts shouldn't be limited by language.
And while we were at it, we joined forces with some pretty amazing partners:
- ClassPass jumped on board with us in June,
- Fitness On Demand joined the party in September,
- The Boddy Platform brought us to travelers worldwide,
- WellHub (formerly Gympass) kept spreading the Motosumo love,
- Urban Sports Club included us in their exclusive app partner program!
Our Facebook community hit 2,000 members strong – 2,000 people sharing wins, wondering how instructors can talk and ride simultaneously (seriously, this is a huge skill in itself), and proving that the best kind of fitness is the kind you do together.
The numbers that made us smile
- 609,415: Kilometers ridden for change and health,
- 4: Major partnerships launched,
- 2,000+: Facebook community members and counting,
- $6,721: Total funds raised for four good causes as part of our Cycle for Change initiative,
- 2: New languages added to our platform,
- 4: CycleMinded newsletters to keep our community in the loop.
Looking ahead: The road continues
Here's the thing about Motosumo – we're never really done. Just like that last sprint in class when you think you've got nothing left but somehow find another gear, we're always pushing for what's next. 2024 was amazing, but we’re looking ahead to 2025 and want it to be another special year.
To our partners, both old and new, who believe in our mission that fitness is the key to being happier and healthier, and who have sweated with us – we couldn’t have done it without you. To every rider who showed up, pushed hard, and made someone else smile with a perfectly timed emoji – thank you. To our instructors who somehow keep talking through those hill climbs – you're superhuman. And to everyone who believed in turning fitness into a force for good – you're why we do this.
Keep those wheels turning. The best rides are still ahead.
See you on the leaderboard!
