2022 in the rear-view: time to drive digital fitness forward!

🥳️ 2022 was the year Motosumo went free for all, transformed our gym solution, and reached a steady 4.8/5 app rating 🎉

CEO and Co-founder of Motosumo, Kresten Juul Jensen, reflects on 2022 and what’s ahead for the state-of-the-art indoor-cycling fitness app.

It has been a relief to experience some level of normality — although we must still be cautious — amidst the ongoing events in the world. From politically volatile events, the war in Ukraine, COVID outbreaks, fluctuating energy prices, and economic instability, 2022 certainly presented its fair share of challenges (as well as successes). All determining factors to a further adjustment of our business model and solutions in the past year.

Biggest changes in 2022

We made the app free for all, and we revamped our gym solution. We continue to be highly rated, averaging a 4.8/5 rating and it makes us proud and humble to read all the positive reviews of Motosumo from people all over the world. This is what gets me and the team out of our beds every morning. In numbers, we had over 100,000 app downloads, nearly 580,000 total rides, over 1.824 million kilometers driven, and 17,000,000 calories burned!

The challenges at Motosumo were no less than others in our sector, yet our resilient team enabled us to have another great year!

2022 in a Glance

Blink and you’ll miss it! Our new gym solution allows gym members to train solo on the gym floor or take a class in a gym bike studio. Gyms can also use our platform to run their own cycling classes using their own instructors, or they can add an extra content layer to their program with Motosumo-instructed classes, live or on-demand, all for free.

The great thing about this is, we’ve already integrated our solution to gyms in over fifteen countries, and with newly added 'Teams' and 'Team Display' features, gyms worldwide are now able to increase capacity, better retain members, and save costs.

On top of keeping our goal of making fitness more fun, social, and accessible for all with our freemium model we also offer an ads-free Premium plan at an affordable price with even more features such as historic training data.

Like in previous years, the media and bloggers continue to review and report on the Motosumo experience.

In the News

Soon after, Valiant CEO.com on the motivation and vision behind Motosumo. I also had a chat with Techstination about our adventure. MDRT listed us as a budget bespoke cycling app due to our customized at-home cycling workout capabilities.

In the autumn, Sustain Health wrote about our freemium and new gym offering announcement. Make Use Of featured us in late 2022 as a great free option for women to stay active when on their periods, and much to our delight, we now appear in App Grooves top 10 Cycling Apps among some of the world's best-known cycle app brands.

Our Family

As a community-driven interactive platform, we pride ourselves on our members. They continue to join our live and on-demand classes from all over the world, and train for different reasons. It’s beautiful to see members supporting each other; people like Rick find the motivation to train for marathons, while Jaimie may use Motosumo to stay active with a personalized workout plan. Regardless of fitness goals, our members continue to make our app an integral part of their fitness journey.

Our Motosumo Community Facebook group is booming. It's an incredible place to share stories, results, advice, and more; it's also a secure, loving, encouraging, and positive space. Everyone is willing to help, showing the strength of our community. We're grateful for this amazing collective experience.

What’s Coming

2022 was an incredible year, but we’re far from done. We’ll continue to demonstrate why Motosumo is valuable in making our members — both existing and newcomers — happier and healthier. We’ll expand the platform and remain the go-to option for live, meaningful, and community-based workouts.

We also took a careful look at projected fitness trends in 2023. While we match many of the leading trends, a few stood out.

Virtual Fitness will be huge. Although Motosumo isn’t formally a virtual-reality workout, we are indeed both virtual and real. Our workouts are live and happen in real time.

Adjacent to virtual fitness, Mobile Fitness continues to drive the industry, and as an app, we will continue to push the envelope to help our members become their best selves.

Group Fitness was again rated as one of the most important trends in 2023. We call it social fitness. Whether at-home, virtually, travelling, in the gym (solo or with friends); Motosumo is basically designed to be a flexible, easy, and convenient group workout with a sense of community.

With all that in mind, (and a bunch of other things), we’re as ready for 2023 as we can be! With a bulletproof plan, cutting-edge features, a powerhouse community, and a dream team, we're ready to take Motosumo to the next level in our effort to democratize digital fitness!
