Bodø’s Growing Popularity Boosted by Direct Flights from Stockholm, Copenhagen and Munich in 2025

Bodø Airport will expand its international connections with the introduction of three new direct flights from Stockholm, Copenhagen and Munich in 2025. Operated by Discover Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), these services will make Bodø’s beauty and cultural attractions even more accessible to travellers from Europe.

Flights from Copenhagen with SAS will begin on May 19, while Munich, with Discover Airlines, services start on June 2, with a second weekly flight added from June 30. Direct flights from Stockholm with SAS will also commence in 2025, providing easy access to Bodø’s highlights during the peak travel season. Named European Capital of Culture 2024, the city continues to gain attention as a dynamic destination, and these new routes will further enhance access to the area.

Nature-Inspired Escapes
Bodø is more than just a city; it’s a place where nature and modern life come together. This is embodied by Wood Hotel Bodø, the newest highlight offering both adventure and relaxation. Located on Rønvikfjellet and built primarily from wood to blend with its surroundings, the hotel offers a 360-degree panoramic view. Here visitors can enjoy scenic hikes under the midnight sun, unwind with rooftop spa treatments, and savour fine dining, making it a great base when visiting the region.

Another popular offering is Pust Sauna, a unique space designed for relaxation and social connection. Located in the city’s inner harbour, this inviting sauna is crafted almost entirely from high-quality pine sourced from inner Troms. Inside, the sauna features cedar wood, creating a calming atmosphere that complements the natural surroundings. This thoughtfully designed space provides a peaceful retreat, bringing people together to unwind and recharge.

Cultural and Coastal Highlights
Located in the heart of the city center you'll find Stormen, a concert hall, library and cultural center. Stormen stands as a modern cultural landmark in Bodø, featuring a total of four halls designed to host a wide range of performances and events. Part of the Kulturkvartalet, which opened in 2014, the building has won several architectural awards and reflects the city’s growing cultural scene.

For those looking to explore Bodø’s coastline, BRIM Explorer offers eco-friendly fjord tours, using hybrid-electric engines to minimize noise and pollution. Starting in summer 2025, BRIM will offer a Coastal Cruise that highlights key attractions of the Bodø region in just half a day.

Or nearby, you can witness the power of Saltstraumen, one of the world’s strongest tidal currents, located just northeast of the city. When the tide moves in and out of the fjords, spectacular whirlpools are created and you can feel the mighty forces of nature. This incredible phenomenon can be experienced through thrilling RIB rafting tours, diving with expert guides, or simply from scenic viewpoints. The area is also home to a rich marine ecosystem, including the world’s largest population of sea eagles.

Unforgettable Stay in Bodø and Salten
Bodø and Salten is home to a variety of pretty remarkable accommodations, for those seeking that authentic experience. Just a short boat ride from Bodø, The Arctic Hideaway on Fleinvær Island offers a minimalist retreat where guests can disconnect from everyday life. With no cars or shops, the island is a peaceful sanctuary where you can spot otters and eagles or catch a sunrise from a traditional Arctic shelter, Njalla.

Or for those who want to experience the traditional charm of Norway, Arnøy Brygge on Arnøyene Island, offers “rorbu” cabins with spectacular fjord and mountain views. Here, you can enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and cycling, or simply relax in the hot tub or sauna after a day of exploring.

For a more modern experience, Manshausen in Steigen offers sea cabins located between mountains and sea. The cabin, being 100% glass, allows you to feel at one with nature, and it’s just a 1.5-hour express boat ride from Bodø.

Beyond Bodø: Discover the Helgeland Coast and Island Hopping
Despite the various offerings in and around Bodø, one of the highlights is the easy access to the coastal region around it. Steigen, Hamarøy, and Gildeskål are especially breathtaking during summer. The picturesque landscapes, charming fishing villages, and beautiful beaches of these areas are perfect for anyone seeking to connect with nature and enjoy a Norwegian summer.

Beyond Bodø, the Helgeland Coast is also a must-see, easily accessible by the Nordland Express. This scenic route, which connects Bodø with the larger Helgeland region, offers a fantastic way to explore the archipelago of 10,000 islands. Additionally, Lofoten — with its dramatic peaks and charming fishing villages — is just a short three-hour ferry ride away, making it an ideal extension to your journey.
