How Nuuka solved the unsolvable indoor problem

The Nuuka team is in full swing of implementing our product to multiple customers: to diagnose buildings and optimize them by using artificial intelligence. It is a privilege to follow them in action.

They are really focused on engaging with customers and onboarding them excellently. Validating building processes, our installations, and the functioning of the building is done with great care. Once the onboarding is complete, our Diagnostics application starts guaranteeing the building systems fully autonomously - 24x7.

And when system performance is validated, we Optimize the building process with AI - which I expect leads often to 20-40% energy savings. In addition, say goodbye to manual inspections and adjustments.

I am delighted to find out that even our onboarding can add enormous value to our customers and that our optimization product can deliver results before full deployment. Consider the following case.

A public building with an unsolvable indoor air problem

We have recently been onboarding a public building built in the 2010s to benefit from our diagnostics and optimization. Target is to guarantee a great indoor climate with clearly reduced energy consumption. The problem was that the building had experienced indoor climate problems since construction.

Customer’s specialists, contractors, HVAC experts, automation company experts have had been assigned to the problem. Inspections carried out. Alas, without results. Yet.

The team followed the Nuuka onboarding process; Adding indoor climate and pressure difference sensors, setting up the connection to the BMS system, getting the building configured to the cloud, starting to validate processes performances, and continuously measuring how they function. The team got a complete picture of the problem.

Subsequently, they used data, analytics, and diagnostics to determine the root cause. As the picture shows, the pressure differences were off by tens of Pascals. Finally, after understanding the exact root cause, fixing the problem was no rocket science.

Years of pressure problems have finally been fixed. The diagram shows the pressure difference in the property, before (to the left of the red line) and after (to the right) Diagnostics and AI have taken over the management of the property.

Quick result – significant benefits

Result: building air ventilation process fixed after years of problems. No more pressure differences. No more doors that are heavy to open. We prevented the risk of spending millions of Euros on fixing the consequences of a non-performing process.

What is more, the building is now ready for our Optimize product to secure a fresh indoor climate, and at the same time, substantially save energy. I confidently expect we will save over 30% of air ventilation’s total energy consumption.
