Press release -

Press conference: Who will take over the container terminal at the Port of Gothenburg?

Tomorrow it will be announced who will take over the container terminal in the Port of Gothenburg. We would like to invite you to meet the new operator at a press conference.

"There has been a great of interest and keen competition to take over the Skandia Container Terminal. Virtually all the global port operators have submitted a bid," states Sven Hulterström, Chairman of the Port of Gothenburg.

The background to today's events is that almost two years ago the port was divided into a municipal port authority and three separate terminal companies. The quays, land and infrastructure are owned by the municipal authority whilst private companies handle the operational side. The port will thus be organised in the same way as the majority of the other major ports around the world. The Container Terminal is the third and final terminal to be transferred to an external operator.*

The operation of the Skandia Container Terminal is governed by a 25-year concession agreement with Port of Gothenburg Authority.

Handles a large proportion of Swedish foreign trade
The Skandia Container Terminal is the largest container terminal in the Nordic Region. A large proportion of Sweden's imports and exports pass through the terminal and there is a wide range of shipping routes both within and outside Europe. It is the only terminal in Sweden that has sufficient capacity to receive the world's largest container vessels. There are also direct routes to other parts of the world, including Asia, India and the USA. The Skandia Container Terminal has around 450 employees.
