Press release -

The Bäckman’s are ready for the season finale

Andreas and Jessica Bäckman are back this weekend for the final round of the TCR Europe Championship at the Jarama track in Spain. The siblings from Sweden are ready and are aiming to finish the season in the best way possible.
- It will be exciting to come and race on a new track. It looks technical, which I think will be interesting and challenging for the drivers, Andreas Bäckman says.

This weekend, November 6th-7th, Europe’s top drivers are competing at the Spanish racing track Jarama, located near Madrid in Spain. The track was built in 1967 and has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1 on eleven occasions and many other major racing series such as the WTCC and MotoGP.

The racing season has been intense for the Sweden National Team drivers Andreas and Jessica Bäckman, and now this weekend it’s time for the final race weekend. The siblings are ready and excited to end the season in the best way possible and are now visiting a new track, which is completely new for this year’s TCR Europe season.

- It will be exciting to come and race on a new track. It looks technical, which I think will be interesting and challenging for the drivers, Andreas Bäckman says.

His sister Jessica agrees, and are hoping for some better luck in this weekend’s competition than in the previous race in Belgium:

- It feels fun to arrive to a new track, and I aim for revenge after the bad luck in the previous race weekend with both a crash and tricky tire choices. This track is shorter than most other tracks we have had on this year’s calendar, so I think it will be close and small margins between all drivers in both the Qualifying and in both Race’s, Jessica Bäckman says.

Still a chance at the championship
Heading into this weekend, the top nine in the driver’s championship still have a theoretical chance of winning the championship. Andreas is currently in seventh place, which means that there is still a chance to win the championship. Although the probability is very small, as he is 80 points behind the championship leader Mike Halder, which is a big gap. The maximum points score during a race weekend is 90 points.

- Considering this year’s season with two crashes and my hand injury, which meant that I had to skip two races, I am surprisingly far up in the championship standings. Realistically, it will be tough to climb up high in the championship this weekend from my seventh position, but I will give everything to end the year in the best way possible.
My focus, as usual, is primarily on making as good of a competition as possible. It would be really fun to repeat my win from Barcelona, but it will be tough, Andreas Bäckman says.

For Jessica, the aim is clearly to get onto the podium.

- It would feel good to end the season with a podium position, as it has been a difficult season for me. The dream would be that we both would step onto the podium together, which was so close in Barcelona when we were first and second until the crash, Jessica Bäckman says.
