Zymatic Sand: Immobilise enzymes to a sand-like material for efficient treatment of unwanted organic compounds

Press release -

Zymatic launches standardised water treatment solutions for several organic pollutants

Zymatic launches a new product category, standardized water treatment solutions, under the existing INDUSTRY umbrella. The standardized solutions are targeting common problematic compounds and groups of compounds and are increasing the company product portfolio.

There are some common organic compounds that are causing issues within the water treatment industry. These common organic compounds could be; phenols, certain API´s, certain pesticides or generally any other unwanted organic compound. As the demands on the quality of water from industrial wastewater effluents are constantly increasing, the industry needs flexible and cost-efficient water treatment solutions. Especially solutions that are flexible in both installation, treatment effect, and scaling.

Zymatic offers enzyme-based water treatment solutions for both industries and municipal WWTP. The active ingredient in Zymatic is enzymes. The customer's treatment needs are met by adjusting the active enzyme mixture, thereby controlling the chemical reaction mechanism carried out by the Zymatic sand. This platform gives a huge advantage towards other one-mechanism water treatment technologies when it comes to flexibility, tailoring and cost-efficiency.

"We are very excited to finally start launching our standard solutions. Widening our product portfolio with standardized solutions for common problematic organic pollutants have been one of our goals since the launch of Zymatic last year. The set of solutions we now present is one of many coming solutions to come as enzymes are very versatile when used in water treatment.", says Christian Ryen, COO of Pharem. "The interest in enzyme-based water treatment solutions are huge and is increasing as customer see all the benefits it provides. Some compounds or groups of compounds are often talked about and therefore more standardized products can be offered."

Enzymes are natural and biological catalysts that exists in all living organisms. Enzymes have been developed over billions of years to break down organic compounds. Nature can degrade almost any organic compound, it´s just about meeting the right enzyme. Zymatic uses its platform to find the right enzymes for the intended use. The right enzyme mixture is concentrated, so that the natural degradation reaction happens in minutes, rather than days, weeks, months or even years. By immobilizing the enzyme mixture to a sand-like material ensures that the solution reuses the enzymes for every new volume water. This makes enzyme-based water treatment solutions scalable, energy-independent, and cost-efficient.
