Female entrepreneur and director at Cabernet Marketing, Amy Bushell sat down for a tell-all interview this week, providing information on her background and her entrepreneurial journey.
What did you do before starting in this industry?
I studied Communication & Media at Bournemouth University. I’ve always been fascinated by words and language. Initially, I wanted to do PR. However, after graduation, I did a PR Internship and found it really boring. After the internship, I worked mostly in hospitality. I loved meeting and talking to people. I worked hard and got promoted quickly, but I didn’t want that as a career, so I sought something else, and that’s when I found this industry.
Do you believe that there is one set formula for success as an entrepreneur?
Absolutely not! Anyone can do it, all it takes is the right mindset and determination to succeed as well as the help of great coaches and mentors.
What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner?
Thinking everything had to be perfect and being afraid to take risks. This was really hard for me to overcome and recognise that it’s okay to fail on the road to success.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the sales and marketing field?
Take risks and don’t be afraid to learn as you go.
Who inspires you?
J.K. Rowling, I find her story incredibly motivating. She started with nothing and faced so many setbacks but kept going. 12 publishers rejected Harry Potter before Bloomsbury Publishing picked it up. She is a perfect example of what can be achieved with determination. I’m also very inspired by the fact she lost her billionaire status because she donated money to charity.
Do you have a quote that you regularly refer to?
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” John C. Maxwell.
What attributes do you look for when it comes to talent acquisition?
Ambition, I want to see a fire in someone. I also want people who are passionate about development and care about the work they do.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
It’s my goal to open a business in New York.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I love camping and music festivals.
