Press release -

Kobe Bryant investment latest example of sportsmen turned shrewd businessmen, states Miami’s One80.

Miami’s outsourced sales and marketing specialists One80 believe sportsmen and women are often geared for success in business, due to a set of good habits and ingrained traits carried over from their athletic careers.

One80: About the firm

Recently, news broke that an investment made by NBA legend Kobe Bryant yielded more than 30 times its money in fewer than four and a half years. Coca-Cola announced the purchase of a minority stake in sports drink BodyArmor - a company where Bryant is the 4th largest investor.

According to ESPN, Bryant -who earned $328 million on the court in his 20-year NBA career and a similar amount off the court over that time - announced his investment in BodyArmor on the same day he announced the start of his new company, Kobe Inc.

One80 see this as just the latest example of where an ex-pro or top athlete has gone on to have great success in business. Speaking at his firm’s HQ, Managing Director Tofiq Bolwala often seeks out individuals with sporting traits for his business, as he believes their growth mindset is invaluable in the industry of sales and marketing;

“Venus Williams, Magic Johnson and George Foreman have all had great success in business - coincidence? Athletes are genetically designed to conquer challenges, so applying resilience and fortitude will definitely benefit their investments as they grow,” argues Bolwala.

Magic Johnson owns ‘Magic Johnson Enterprises’, and his company is valued at over one billion dollars. One80 Miami claim that Magic has tried his hand at almost everything - and with success. Johnson’s company has owned everything from Starbucks stores, to movie theaters, and 24 hour fitness facilities.

One80 Miami also cite the success David Beckham has had in business despite retiring from sports long ago - he now has a net worth valued well above four hundred million dollars from his ‘off the field’ ventures.

“While it is true many of these athletes had more capital to start with due to their sporting success and fame, small business owners should see this as a challenge to overcome, entrepreneurially. Ultimately, it’s their leadership, vision, confidence, perseverance, that have given them success - not money. Plenty of rich people have gone broke due to bad investments,” concludes Bolwala.

Aiming to tackle their industry of sales and marketing head-on, the firm wants to differentiate themselves from the competition by appealing to individuals interested in - or in possession of - sporting experience or mentalities.
