Message from council leader Rishi Shori following events in Nice

Council leader Rishi Shori has condemned yesterday’s events in Nice and extended his deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who died.

“Once more, the people of France have been victims of an appalling attack,” he said. “On Bastille Day, what should have been celebration of democracy for the French has ended in tears and tragedy.

“We are flying the tricolor at half-mast outside the town hall today as a mark of respect and to show our support for our friends and near neighbours.

“The turmoil around the world reminds me of how lucky we are in Bury to have such a diverse community living in harmony, side by side. Our differences bring us together rather than divide us.”
